ARTWORK
Based on the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), I would like to recall us to our awareness of diversity in a unity as the strength of this country. “From Sabang Until Merauke” is one of the songs that remind us of this diversity built into the unitary state of Indonesia. Indeed, Indonesia is a vast labyrinth that is located at 6 degrees north latitude, 11 degrees south latitude, 95 degrees east longitude and 141 degrees east longitude. With this work, I invite all audiences to play in the labyrinth of the Indonesian archipelago made of woven bamboo before entering the exhibition hall. It is to revive our awareness of Indonesia through playing.

In the visualization of this work, I use metaphors; the visual of the islands (Indonesian Archipelago) is a labyrinth that is intended as a symbol. At the same time, it is an icon of ideas about Indonesia as a country that is rich in diversity.

The use of bamboo material in weaving technique reflects my vision of ecological awareness in art and a marker of the evolution of the weaving culture, which in this work contains a meaning about unity; a form of strength for a united purpose of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
