I Made Widya Diputra

Received his formal education at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, studying sculpture art. His works use various materials, displaying his superior skill in crafts through the strength of material in a concrete and impressive combination. He plays with the sensations and memories of an object, an opportunity to discuss about the past and history that shape us today.

Taking off from his skills on field, space, sculpture, and material, he always develops his artistic practice in exploring the two dimensional and the three dimensional. He processes sensation, emotions, transcendental experiences, history and the collective memory. His works are also the reaction of contemporary art towards the roots of tradition, both the Balinese and the Javanese traditions: interpretation of tradition, or the critical perspective on the social-political issues that emerge in Indonesia

His latest work set off from a Balinese folktale, Calon Arang, a key figure in Hinduism rites. A deconstruction on myths and the attempts to distort the visual imagery on women body/figure, the change of perception and interpretation on the shapes, history, myth, and sensation of the body.

He won for the best sculpture work in the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta 23rd Dies Natalis in 2007, Best Young Artist in ISI Yogyakarta 2007, and the best artist award in Bandung Contemporary Art Award (BaCAA) 2010. He actively exhibits his works in Indonesia and abroad.
