ARTWORK
Tisna Sanjaya’s artworks always examine human problems within the spaces of social, political, and cultural lives through various performative metaphors. A curatorial note once observed that his works highlight two main points: the question of the role of art and the emergence of themes in the realm of religion. Nowadays Tisna questions the truth of art and the rhetoric of artists. Sometimes he seems to show that art is something that’s meaningless. Whether as self-criticism or insight regarding art in general, Tisna portrays art with “nothing” as the text because he believes that there are parasites growing inside artists’ minds; no ideas are meaningful. For Tisna, practicing religion and practicing art are equally fun. Religion for him becomes more human when art is present there. The diversity presented by Tisna is then one that celebrates wealth, plurality, and the grace of life. In other words, the religious life for him cannot be separated from the religion of life.
